High Point favorites

The High Point market celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The to-the-trade furniture show runs Saturday, April 25 to Thursday, April 30.
I attended my first market in 1999. Here are some of my favorite experiences (in no particular order):
1. Catching some rays on the third-floor deck of Showplace.
2. Talking with first-time exhibitors. Their enthusiasm is genuine and they are not the least bit jaded.
3. Inhaling the combined aromas of leather and freshly ground coffee that hit you when you step inside IHFC.
4. Browsing the bookstores in Market Square and the C&D Building.
5. Drinking a glass of sweet tea and
6. Sipping a can of Cheerwine, the local soft drink. (But one serving of this Dr Pepper-like beverage every six months is plenty.)
7, Uncovering something new in decorative accessories. With all that creative talent showing in High Point, you’ll always find a style or color combination you have never seen before.
8. Savoring a carryout dinner (though you can eat in) from Saigon Cuisine Restaurant, 4205 High Point Road, Greensboro. Telephone 336-294-9286.
9. Taking in the visual merchandising magic in the Global Views showroom.
10. Breaking the routine and walking into a showroom I have never visited.
11. Heading home. This market always leaves me exhausted. Exhilarated, yes, but also very tired.

  1. I know what you mean. Yet, as much as things change, so much is still the same. Miss you, High Point!

  2. I remember sitting next to you on the flight to your first market. You were so new that the ink on your business cards had not yet dried.

  3. And the pie at the Parson's Table! Can't forget that! - Christine
