Winning textile products

In the Best New Product Awards competition at Home Textiles Market Week in New York, a panel of editors named the green bamboo outdoor pillow from V Rugs & Home (Miami) the Best of Market.
Other winners were:
Bed category--Plover Organic (Portland, OR) for its organic cotton hand-quilted Cartouche Quilt.
Bath category--Libeco Lagae (New York) for its 100% linen Vence Bed Set.
Dining category--Lintex (New York) for its Golden Jubilee tablecloth and napkin.
Home accessories category--Dash & Albert (Pittsfield, MA) for its wool hand-woven Zipper Rug.
The winners were selected from among 115 entries. Judges were: Jennifer Marks, Home Textiles Today; Wanda Jankowski, LDB; David Gill, HFN; Jenny Heinzen York, Home Accents Today; Pamela Graves, Home Fashion & Furniture Trends; and Katherine Nelson, Metropolitan Home.

Organic chocolate, candles

Vanishing Creatures makes organic dark chocolate in the shape of animals whose habitat is endangered. The animal heads rest on plaques. After consumption, the plaques and boxes can be used as floating candle holders.

Usually I only write about products introduced at trade shows. These I found at retail. I was shopping for birthday cards for two nieces, and was struck by these two lines, which I found in the same store.

The Art File, a greeting card company based in England. www.artfile.com The Art File, based in England, has a wide range of cards for every occasion. I especially liked this VW bus drawing with the die-cut daisies (click for larger view). The inside is blank.

Loose Petals, a greeting card company from Chicago. www.loosepetals.com

Loose Petals makes eco-friendly cards of FSC-certified and recycled papers. They are printed and hand finished in Chicago.

Books, journals, note cards

Retired Hipster Inc is an innovative independent publisher and manufacturer of books and lifestyle products. It launched a new product line at this week's New York International Gift Fair. Award-winning door knock

Desu Design won an Excellence in Product Design award at the 2009 summer New York International Gift Fair for its Pendulum Door Knocker. The award citation said, "unlike traditional door knockers, (this door knocker) is minimalist and often not recognized as an object but as sculpture."

Scandinavian-designed cake server
